Gene F. Hassell, Jr.
May 27, 1972 – February 23, 2026

Gene F. Hassell, Jr., passed peacefully at ECU Health Chowan Hospital on February 23, 2026.

Gene (Bud) was born May 27, 1972, to the late, Gene Hassell Sr. and Helen Fallon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Wright Hassell, five children:  Daniel Lafferty, Crystal Lafferty, Joshua Lafferty, Trinity Hassell, and Sebastian Hassell, his two sisters, Michelle Tarkington and Taurus Baker, seven granddaughters, as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Lafferty.

During his working years, Bud was a hardwood floor installer and refinisher and picked up carpentry along the way.  He was definitely a man of many trades.  It never mattered the occupation; he would give it a try to support his family.  One of the greatest, most hardworking men you’d ever meet.  May he live on forever in the hearts of the ones that knew him.  FTAB6-NJF

A memorial service will be held at Soundside Free Will Baptist Church on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Royce Reynolds will officiate.
