Mr. George C. Boyd, Jr.
April 28, 1938 - September 26, 2025

Mr. George C. Boyd, Jr, age 87, a resident of Long Acre community and Plymouth, NC passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at home surrounded by family after a long illness. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, affectionately known as “Granddaddy” to his loved ones.

He retired from Weyerhaeuser Company in Plymouth in 2002 after 36 years of dedicated service. Mr. Boyd was a kind and gentle man, a faithful friend, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served as Military Police in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1964 after being stationed in Germany.

Mr. Boyd found great joy in serving at First Baptist Church in Plymouth, NC, where he held many roles, including Chairman of the Deacon Board, Adult Men’s Sunday School leader, and member of both the financial and Building and Grounds committees. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports, refinishing antique furniture, collecting, and selling antique toys. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and family.

Born in Beaufort County, NC on April 28, 1938, he was the son of George C. Boyd and Adelaide Harris Boyd. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Woolard Boyd, on July 22, 1966, and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage this year.

Left to cherish his memory are his two children and their spouses: Kimberly Boyd Duke and husband Thomas Lee Duke of Holly Springs, NC, and Jason George Boyd and wife Amy Jones Boyd of Greenville, NC; four grandchildren: Cameron Lee Duke, Brandon Thomas Duke, and Joshua Lane Duke of Holly Springs, NC and Katherine Louise Boyd of Greenville, NC.

He is preceded in death by Walter Thomas Boyd of Bath, William Henry Boyd of Washington, and Robert F. Boyd of Bath.

Pallbearers will include Thomas Duke, Cameron Duke, Brandon Duke, Joshua Duke, Brett Woolard, and Justin Dickerson.

Honorary pallbearers include Gary Dickerson, Russell Lee, Wade Rogers, Ronnie Thompson, Harry Ward, and Phillip Ward.

The family will receive friends for visitation on September 29, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Plymouth, NC, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., and at other times at the home.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Plymouth. Pastor Paul Harrington will officiate. The burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.
