Gloria P. Davenport
July 28, 1936 – April 14, 2023

Gloria Joan Phelps Davenport, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on April 14, 2023.

Born on July 28, 1936, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Hence H. Phelps and Beatrice Spruill Phelps.  Gloria was married to the late James Carol Davenport for 60 years.  She was also preceded in death by sister Doris Comstock and brother Gerald Phelps.

Gloria was an active member of Mt. Hermon Methodist Church.  She retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation where she was employed for 26 years.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church. Rev. Lee Wise, and Pastor Prudencio Casas will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Surviving family includes daughter Denise Davenport Phelps (Ricky); son Jeffrey Carroll Davenport; grandchildren Eric Phelps and Jessica Brooks (Adam); great-grandchildren Emory and Lydia Brooks.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Gloria’s caregivers Jessica Spear and Zella Basnight, and to Amedisys Hospice Care for their devotion.
