Grace Cahoon Spencer
January 9, 1929 – July 13, 2021

Grace Cahoon Spencer, 92, of Swan Quarter, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Grace was born in Beaufort County and reared by the late Abram and Katie Swindell Cahoon.  She married Warren G. Spencer who preceded her in death.

Grace was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and homemaker.  She was a member of Soule United Methodist Church.

She was a great cook who loved to care for her family, and as a military wife, she often found herself residing in many states including Georgia, South Dakota, Texas, Mississippi, New Jersey, and the United States territory of Puerto Rico. In 1975 she and her husband returned to Eastern North Carolina to the family home place in Swan Quarter.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Soule United Methodist Church. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate. Inurnment of the cremated remains will take place at Soule Cemetery following the service.

Mrs. Spencer is survived by two daughters, Marsha Danser, of New Jersey and Kathryn Page (Allen), of Swan Quarter;  granddaughter, Ashleigh Hatefi (Joe), grandson, Spencer Page, and step-grandson Rob Danser (Cecil); great-grandchildren, Jordan Gray, Zahra, Leanna, Drew, Cyrrus and Celine; two sisters-in-law, Mae Spencer of Wilmington, and Virginia Gurganus, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; three half-sisters, Naomi  Alligood, Eleanor Humphreys, Bettie Elliott, and one half-brother, Kent Gurganus all of Bath.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Danser; five sisters, Elizabeth Harris, Kathleen Whitley, Selma Harden, Charlotte Biggs, and Edna Elks; four brothers, Charlie Cahoon, Ray Cahoon, Joshua Cahoon, and Glen Gurganus.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Denise Blount, Amedisys Hospice for the care provided to Mrs. Grace, as well as the help of Wanda Blount and Ella Gibbs.
