Isabelle B. (Daniel) Homes
December 27, 1936 – April 4, 2026
Isabelle Homes, 89, of Engelhard, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Isabelle was born on December 27, 1936, in Beaufort County, to the late Erasmus Alston and Isabelle Gibbs Daniel. She grew up in Washington, North Carolina, and went on to build a vibrant and fulfilling life along the Pamlico River—one marked by energy, grace, and deep connections to family and community.
A dynamic, sophisticated, and hardworking woman, Isabelle spent her working years as a realtor, a profession she truly loved. She became a top-producing agent in the Wake County and Cary area before moving to the Outer Banks, where she founded her own real estate company. Even in semi-retirement, she continued to grow her business from her cherished 300-year-old family home in Hyde County. In addition to her real estate company, she took great pride in managing the Mattamuskeet Village Apartments, a role she thoroughly enjoyed.
Isabelle had a natural gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family.
She loved to travel, but the most special and important place in her heart was always Hyde County. It was there that she created lasting memories with her family, especially through her cherished "Camp Granny Boo," where her grandchildren gathered for unforgettable times together. To her friends, she was affectionately known as "Boo," and to her grandchildren, she was "Granny Boo."
Isabelle had a lifelong love of learning and connection. She was an avid reader, deeply interested in genealogy, and an active participant in several book clubs where lively conversation and a shared appreciation for good food and fellowship were always at the heart of the gathering. She was also a devoted fan of UNC athletics and especially looked forward to cheering on the Carolina men's basketball team.
She was a faithful member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Engelhard, where she served as Senior Warden, reflecting her deep commitment to her church and community.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at St. George's Episcopal Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Isabelle is survived by three sons: Garland Richard Homes, Jr. (Sandra) of Wilson, Erasmus Daniel Homes (Kim) of Knightdale, and Richard Bryant Homes of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Sarah Alston Homes of Raleigh and Isabelle Homes Gesher (Nolan) of Raleigh; eleven grandchildren: Courtney, Garland, Cameron, Lee, John, Ras, Belle, Sydney, Gibbs, Ben, Smith; and five great-grandchildren: Cameron, Jr., Kaylene, Rowe, Cook, and Coleman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Long Daniel Beasley.
Her life was a beautiful reflection of strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 101, Engelhard, NC 27824.
Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service.
