Jack Davenport Obituary

Jack E. Davenport
March 21, 1963 – May 28, 2023

Jack Ernest Davenport, 60, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Jack was born in Tyrrell County on March 21, 1963, to the late Willie Webster and Betty Frances Ball Davenport. He was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. Jack possessed Betty’s HEART and Willie’s FIRE.

He is survived by his devoted and courageous wife of nearly 50 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Sawyer Davenport. Together, they shared a life of bootstrap resolve, profound commitment, and boundless love, always making the best of the worst situations.

Jack is also survived by four sisters and brothers in Christ - Peggy and Jerry Keeter of Chesapeake, VA, Harriett and Lawrence Jones, Bernice and David Kitts, and Esther Sue and Jeff Getty all of Columbia. He leaves two special nieces, Jessica Leigh Gianferrara of Columbia, and Samantha Marie Pollard of Wilmington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Willie Lester “Billy” Davenport, Robert Hilton Davenport, Richard Hunter Davenport, and sister Clara Frances Aziere.

Jack was a ROCK N ROLL SOUL who loved all things that moved fast (the louder the better) and the GREAT OUTDOORS. He had an infectious humor and was often the center of attention. He was a hunter and a fisherman – never letting obstacles or deficits keep him from his passions. He was a true warrior who persevered and overcame every challenge he encountered. Jack worked hard and played hard.

Jack was a respected and gifted Carpenter for many years. He took tremendous pride in his work and was always willing to share his talent with family, friends, and neighbors.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 2, 2023 (one hour before the service) A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., also at Bryan Funeral Service in Columbia, NC.
