Jeffrey Kent Getty, 62, of Columbia, NC passed away unexpectedly in Columbia, NC on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Jeff was born in Glens Falls, New York on October 3, 1961, to Gerald Edward and Dorothy Vera Derusha Getty. He married the former Sue Davenport McKinney, who survives.

Jeff was a true family man; he loved each one of his family members and was proud to say they were his - whether they were by blood or not. Jeff worked as a Regional Safety Manager for the Welsh Group/Archer Western Contractors for 24 years and was passionate about his work and coworkers; they were his second family. Jeff was an avid Buick enthusiast, restorer, and drag racer, belonging to the "Richmond Gang" and attending the Buick GS Nationals for many years with them. Northeast Dragway in Hertford, NC was his favorite drag strip. Jeff never met a stranger. He was always up for a good conversation. No matter the topic, whether it was cars, work, politics, or hunting, Jeff was ready to converse. Jeff will be truly missed by many.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Gerald Getty and wife Joyce of Salem, NY, son, Jason Getty (Crystal) of Hebron, NY, daughter, Cheryl Porter (Matt) of West Fort Ann, NY; two step-sons: Andrew McKinney (Rehan) of Raleigh, NC and Arthur Lee McKinney III of Columbia, NC; grandchildren: Jacob and John Getty, Paisley, Brinley, and Nolan Porter, Justice McKinney, and Easton and Wyatt Paul; siblings:  Dale Getty (Diana) of Springfield, VT, Kyle Getty (Janis) of Salem, NY, Greg Getty (Janine) of Perkinsville VT, Steve Getty (Marcy) of Springfield, VT, Colleen Getty of Glens Falls, NY, Mindy Demarcus of NH, Joe Bushong of Glens Falls, NY, John Bushong (Teresa) of Boiling Springs, SC, Mary Gow (Brad) of Wilton, CT, and Cathy Slater (Harold) of Petersburg, NY; and numerous other family, friends, work family, and car enthusiast buddies.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Vera Derusha Getty.

Per his requests, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, Jeff requested donations be made to the Northeast Dragway (Mailing Address: Curtis Trueblood; 1099 Lake Road; Hertford, NC 27944)
