Jessie Robert Gibbs, Sr.

January 16, 1947 – March 06, 2025

Jessie Robert Gibbs, 78, of Engelhard, died on Thursday, March 06, 2025, at his home residence. 

Born in Hyde County, Engelhard (Lake Landing) NC on January 16, 1947, to the late Wilton Atimore Gibbs and Ercell Rethelle Gibbs.  He was married to the love of his life, Linda H. Gibbs, who survives.  They were blessed to spend 54 years as husband and wife.   

Robert devoted his life as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.  He loved his family dearly.

At the age of 21, he served in the US Army from January 17, 1968 - January 08, 1970, as a Combat Engineer.  He loved his country and had a lot of respect for the Military.

He spent the majority of his working career working as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.  He spent many long hours helping Farmers, Fishermen, Business Owners, etc. in an effort to keep their equipment going.  It was nothing for him to spend hours reading manuals, studying diagrams, troubleshooting, etc. when he ran into problems.  He would go the extra mile to repair equipment so workers could return to their duties as soon as possible.  He was very particular with his work and was well known for making repairs exactly by the book.  He knew that for everyday equipment was out of service could contribute to a family going without necessities.  He was always willing to help others even if it meant making personal sacrifices.  His children remember as a child how their dad was gone when they woke up in the mornings and was still working when they went to bed.  He never once underestimated the importance of his job as he always remained committed.  He was known to be a man of integrity.  To his daughter, there was nothing he couldn’t fix.  To his son, there was nothing mechanical that he couldn’t repair.  In their eyes, if it was broken then Daddy could fix it!  He began his employment with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on November 22, 1991, and retired on November 28, 2015.  Outside of working, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking.  He attended Swan Quarter Pentecostal Holiness church. He loved his lord, his pastor and church family.  He was a wonderful person that loved everyone and will greatly be missed.

A service will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the home of Linda H. Gibbs in Engelhard.    

In addition to his wife surviving are: one son, Jessie Robert Gibbs Jr. of Engelhard, daughter, Becky G. Berry (David) of Scranton, Brother-In-Law, Sam Eburn Jr. (Janet) of Fairfield, Sister-In-Law, Shirley Farrow (Jeff) of Engelhard. 

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marylin Farrow.
