John David Etheridge, Sr.

John David Etheridge, Sr., 79, of Columbia, died, Friday, October 4, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Tyrrell County, November 12, 1939, he was the son of the late John Duran and Georgia Madeline Everton Etheridge. He was married to former Mildred Yvonne Spencer who preceded him in death.

He was a member of Sandy Acres Free Will Baptist Church and faithfully served his country with the United States Army.

A jack of all trades, Mr. Etheridge loved running heavy equipment and building anything out of wood with his hard working hands.

During his early years, he enjoyed fishing at the Oregon Inlet and deer hunting with family and friends.

Later years enjoyed riding his four-wheeler at the farm and helping his son in the shop.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Sandy Acres Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Roger Peaden will officiate. Burial will follow at the Old Home Place Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Amy E. Spencer and husband James of Scranton, SC, Angie Sexton of Columbia; a son, J.D. Etheridge, Jr. and wife Regina of Columbia, eighteen grandchildren, James Spencer, Jr., Margaret Rouse, John Spencer, Joshua Spencer, Charity Spencer, Kimberly Raines, Jonah Spencer, Jeremiah Spencer, Gracie Spencer, Sarah Spencer, Will Holliday, Andrew Etheridge, Trey Etheridge, Sydnee Etheridge, Justin Sexton, Jared Sexton, Jordan Sexton and Presley Sexton; eleven great-grandchildren and one brother Raymond Etheridge of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by a sister Betty Joyce Brickhouse.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sandy Acres Free Will Baptist Church, Columbia.
