Joseph Leslie Simmons, III, 85, of Fairfield, died, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, Washington.
Leslie was born in Beaufort County on April 6, 1938, to the late Joseph Leslie, Jr., and Maxine Boomer Simmons. He was married to the former Audrey Fisher who survives.
He was a member of the Fairfield Methodist Church.
He was the owner and operator of the Osprey Nest Campground in Fairfield, NC where he enjoyed meeting new faces and the daily activities of managing the campground. A man of many talents and a jack of all trades, Leslie had an affinity for listening well. During his early working years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator in numerous industries.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the family plot in Fairfield Cemetery. Pastor Valerie Tyson will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home place.
In addition to his wife surviving is a daughter, Pamela S. Cahoon (Guire) of Swan Quarter, two sons, Joseph L. “Joey” Simmons IV of Fairfield, Donald Glenn Simmons (Kim) of Engelhard; six grandchildren, , Brandy C. Pugh (Darrell) and Daniel Cahoon (Sara), Averi Simmons, Joseph L. “Jay” Simmons, V., Anna S. Fincher (Brandon), Donald Simmons; nine great-grandchildren, Danielle Pugh, Carl Wayne Pugh, Leah Cahoon, Landon Cahoon, Edwin Cahoon, Emmett Cahoon, Kylie Simmons, Lizzie Fincher and Kate Fincher and two sisters, Betty S. Mann and Donna S. Nifong both of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by a sister Joanne S. Best.
