Joseph Williams Obituary

Joseph V. Williams

February 15, 1958 – October 7, 2021

Joseph “Joe” Valentine Williams, 63, of the Scranton community, died October 7, 2021, with family by his side at home.

Joe was born in Beaufort County on February 15, 1958, to the late Ralph Sr. and Dorothy Ange Williams. He was married to the love of his life, Melody Carter Williams who survives.

In addition to his wife, surviving are Melody Jo “MJ” Williams (Trent) of Manteo; Joseph Williams II (Jennifer) of Scranton; and Tammie Farmer of Pensacola Florida; grandchildren: Brandt Williams, Hurley Williams, Braxton Williams, Trent Jones Jr., Chase Jones, Easton Jones, Tripp Williams, and Ariel Williams; three brothers, Ralph Williams Jr. (Vickie) of Scranton, Kent Williams (Carol Ann) of Engelhard, and Bryan Williams (Rhonda) of Pantego; two sisters, Sheila Garrish (Rayford) of Scranton, and Esther W. Keech (Mack) of Free Union; sister-in-law Sue Rhem (children John Michael & Sarah Rhem) of Belhaven. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom he loved dearly.

To know Joe was to love Joe. He never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and co-worker.  Growing up Joe enjoyed helping on the family farm and enjoyed the faster side of things in life. He found a love for commercial fishing with his Daddy and Uncle Sammy that still remained close in his heart.

He married the love of his life on October 20, 1985. They spent 35 amazing years together where they raised two beautiful children. They made many priceless memories that will always be held close to their hearts. Joe could often be found cheering his kids on at ballgames where he drove the bus and became a person everyone loved. He was quick with his jokes and surely kept everyone on their toes. He enjoyed his Sunday night poker games and his weekly trips to Greenville with his Daddy at the car sales. He enjoyed many things in life; restoring old trucks and cars, watching his grandkids play ball, going to the racetracks, spending days at the pool, riding the golf cart; hauling beans, cotton, and corn, and just being around people to make them laugh. He also enjoyed going to the mountains and amusement parks where no ride was too fast or too big.  Joe was a “jack of all trades” and there wasn’t much he couldn’t do.

Joe loved his family with everything he had. He made those around him always feel welcomed and loved and was admired by so many. He would give the shirt off his back to a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He lived life to its fullest and left no stone unturned.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Bryan Funeral Service and other times at the family home.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Mount Olive Church of Christ.
