Larry Styons
1943-2025
Richard "Larry" Styons, a lifelong resident of Plymouth, North Carolina, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born on May 3, 1943, in Plymouth, where he spent his entire life surrounded by family and friends.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Julie Ann Styons; his daughters Erin Styons (Ben Hoffman), Dawn Arnold, and Jena Davis (Paul); and his grandsons Jaden Rogers and Dylan "Scout" Arnold. He is also remembered by his brothers Ray Styons (Bonnie), Jerry Styons (Brenda), and Michael "Rooster" Styons; his sister Sylvia Waters; and his sister-in-law Lela Styons, wife of the late Rodney Styons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Evelyn Styons; his sister Carol Perry (Jay Jr. Perry); and his brother Rodney Styons.
In his mid-20s, Larry served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career at Weyerhaeuser, where he worked on the “boiler gang” for over 30 years. Known to coworkers as “Red,” he was respected for his dedication and work ethic.
Larry was a hardworking man who, alongside Julie, built a warm and caring home for their family. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—mowing grass at home or at the golf course, cheering on the UNC Tar Heels basketball team, or watching NASCAR races with a preference for anyone driving a Ford to win. A devoted member of Plymouth Country Club, Larry played golf three times a week with friends and shared many memorable rounds with his wife and grandson.
Known for his quiet humor and quick wit, Larry brought smiles to many. He would sit back and observe until it was time to deliver a one liner to make you smile.
