Lucille L. Berry
August 9, 1951 – October 28, 2024
Lucille Lockley Berry, 73, of Scranton, died, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.
Born in Poinsett County, Arkansas on August 9, 1951, to the late John Allen Lockley and Wanda Lee Wise. She was married to Lester M. Berry who survives.
Lucille dedicated her life to being the best wife, mother, grammers, friend, sister, and aunt. She was very loving and always welcomed everyone into her home. She didn't know a stranger. Her house was the gathering place for everyone. She taught her family the meaning of love. The lessons that she taught us will live on forever. She always put others first. If you walked into her home, you were greeted with a smile and a hug. She made everyone feel at home.
She was a member of Sladesville Baptist Church. Sharing the love of the Lord was an important part of her life. Not only did she tell others about the Lord she showed her faithfulness, gentleness and kindness to all. Her granddaughters were the light of her life. Caitlyn and Madison have many fun memories of their grammers. Here are a few memories they wanted to share. Grammers was a very welcoming and kind person. There has never been a time me or my friends have been to her house where we weren't offered food. Every time I see a bird I will think of her. She loved to watch her hummingbirds and finches in the summer. She taught us how to cook food at 2 in the morning. How to sew when I needed something fixed. She loved to teach the things she knew to the people she loved. We had midnight movie nights, sleepovers and breakfast in the middle of the night. Grammers was always up for a dance party, card game or karaoke session. Her fun loving spirit will live on in all of us. When you told her goodbye she would always say "I love you".
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Philip Dietz will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Spencer in Scranton.
In addition to her husband surviving are two sons, Clint Berry (Sandy), and David Berry (Becky), and a daughter Jessica B. Spencer (William) all of Scranton; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Spencer and Madison Spencer; a sister, Kay Ambrose (Michael) of Creswell.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, John David Lockley, Eddie Lockley, Danny Lockley, and Vernon Thomas, and three sisters, Brenda Pigg, Linda Hope, and Sue Kelly.
