Mary Joyce Gibbs

Mary Joyce Gibbs 72, of Engelhard, died, on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, Washington.
Mary Joyce was born in Tyrrell County, on December 11, 1950, to the late Edgar and Alma Gibbs.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church and Masonic Lodge 232 Order of the Easter Star. Mary Joyce worked for the North Carolina Forestry Service for twenty years before moving to the Department of Corrections where she retired.
Mary Joyce had a love for her family. She was a selfless giver who took care of her mother and father and children, but her love for her grandchildren made her an amazing grandmother.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Swan Quarter Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mike Wheeler will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving is a daughter Eyleen Brooks (Gregory) of Swan Quarter; four grandchildren, Summer Gale Cahoon (Bryson), Travis Wade Gibbs, Laurin Rae Gibbs, and Christina Lea Stotesberry; six great-grandchildren, Alma Delanie Gibbs, Sebastian Ray Gibbs, Amelia Mae Gibbs, Teagan Ecko Stotesberry, Danica Marie Brickhouse and Kane Holiva Brickhouse; a sister, Alice Ann Armstrong; an uncle, Bobby Ray Gibbs and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Israel Gibbs; two brothers, Vernon Gibbs, and Eugene Tooley Gibbs; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Armstrong and a sister-in-law, Debbie Gibbs.
