May 3, 1940 – August 21, 2020

Robert Brantley Chesson, 80, of Roper, died unexpectedly Friday, August 21, 2020, at his residence.

Bobby was born in Washington County on May 3, 1940, to the late Joseph Monroe and Dezzie Marie Phelps Chesson. He was married to the former Gracie Davis who survives.

Mr. Chesson was a faithful member of the Mount Zion Original Free Will Baptist Church and a retired carpenter.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020, in the Chesson Family Cemetery, Roper. Reverend Jesse Crisp will officiate.

In addition to his wife surviving is a daughter, Bobbi Jean Chesson Allen of Plymouth, Step-children:  Donna M. Gross, Deborah A. Barber, Lisa B. Silverthorne, Kimberly J. Biggs, Sherry B. Stotesbury, and Kenneth E. Barber, twenty-four grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Jack Chesson, and sisters, Linda Alligood and Shirley Goff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Jimmy Chesson, Joseph Chesson, and Jesse Chesson, sisters: Marion Utterback, Emily Rhodes, and Debra Chesson, as well as granddaughter, Christy Holloman.

The family will gather with friends immediately following the service.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service at Hampton Academy, Plymouth.
