Roger Milton Sawyer, 87, of Plymouth, passed away at his daughter’s home on Monday, September 22, 2025.

Roger was born in Hyde County, NC, on May 14, 1938, to the late Luther and Alean Pegram Sawyer.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Roger worked for Weyerhaeuser Corporation in the log woods, where he became a supervisor and later moved into the mill. He worked briefly with Georgia Pacific and the Esso Station.

Roger loved being an active member of New Beginning Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed hunting and loved “getting out riding”.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth. Jim Howell will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Sawyer (Ed Knott) of Jamesville, two grandchildren, Kristian Sawyer Porter (Matthew) of Chocowinity and Erica Sawyer of Plymouth, and two great-grandchildren; Ezekiel Porter and Gideon Porter.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by four brothers: Murriel H. Sawyer, Sterling J. Sawyer, Luther “Bill” Sawyer, and Forestt Lee Sawyer, four sisters; Alice S. Sadler, Doris Phelps, Nell J. Lee, and Hilda O’Neal, and his uncle Stocton Sawyer.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service at Hampton Academy, Plymouth.
