Romulus Watson, 85, of Columbia, died unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

He was born in Hyde County on June 26, 1935, to the late Romblus and Lessie Dunbar Watson. He was married to the former Myra Daniels who survives.

He honorably served his country on board the U. S. S. Beale DDE 471 while enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a man of few words who loved to read, rambling in the woods, tending to his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Christy W. Roughton, Robin W. Spencer, and husband Joie, both of Columbia; and Debbie W. Davenport and husband Craig of Murfreesboro, TN.  Also, surviving are six grandchildren: J. J. Roughton, Justin Roughton and wife Paula, Waylone Spencer, Josie Spencer, Jefferson Davenport, and Madison Davenport; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Preston Watson of Plymouth, and one sister, Jackie W. Meyer of Gray, GA.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Watson and Elvin Watson; and three sisters, Lucille W. Adams, Neva Pearl W. Gage, and Sophia W. Cox.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tyrrell County Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 45, Columbia, NC 27925.
