Susan Annette (Small) Thompson
October 6, 1961 - November 8, 2023

Susan Thompson, 62, of Plymouth passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, after a long struggle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by loving family throughout her illness and at her passing.

She was born on October 6, 1961, in Edenton to the late James Wilson Small and Louise Mansfield Small. 

Susan was a member of Plymouth United Methodist Church and a devoted Christian. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a loyal Tar Heel basketball fan.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She always enjoyed new and challenging endeavors that mixed her love of scientific precision with artistic expression. From playing piano at a young age to gardening and teaching herself how to knit and do watercolor painting later in life, Susan always had an interest in learning new hobbies. She was also a committed library patron and avid reader, especially of cozy mystery books.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Plymouth United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Vickie Woolard. Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends following the service.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dr. Terry E. Thompson; her son, Scott Thompson of Cary; her daughter, Laura A. Barber (Nolan) of Williamston; her grandson, Cole Barber of Williamston; her brother, Richard Small (Linda) of Roper; her two sisters, Carolyn S. White of Roper and Alice S. Edwards (Ronnie) of Roper; and many loving nieces and nephews.
