Thomas E. Newman, Sr.
December 1, 1943 – September 1, 2020

Thomas Edward “Tommy” Newman, Sr., 76, of Swan Quarter, died, Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Washington.

Tommy was born in Hyde County on December 1, 1943, to the late Richard D., Sr. and Muriel Wahab Newman. He was married to the former Susie Meekins who survives.

Tommy worked as a commercial fisherman and for thirty-two years he was the owner and operator of Newman’s Seafood. He honorably served his county during the Vietnam War with the United States Army.

A private graveside service was held at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Pastor Mike Wheeler officiated.

In addition to his wife surviving are three sons; Thomas Edward “Eddie” Newman, Jr., and wife Gwen, Dell Allen Newman and wife Rhonda both of Swan Quarter, and Richard Gordon Newman of Belhaven; four grandchildren, Misty Newman, Taylor Newman, Rylie Newman, Thomas Edward Newman, III, and wife Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Edward Newman, IV, and William James Newman; one brother, Gilbert H. Newman of Pantego, and one sister, Florence N. Abel of Swan Quarter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mitchell Newman, R. D. Newman, Jr., Harvey Newman; and two sisters, Nell N. Sears and Muriel “Nancy” Newman.
