Tom Brown, 89, of Engelhard, died Friday, May 7, 2021, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Tom was born in Hyde County on January 10, 1932, to the late Bennie and Mamie Gibbs Brown. He was married to Linda Hudson Brown who survives.
He was a member of Mount Pilgrim Church of Christ. Tom worked as a cab driver for the city of New York and later worked as a bus driver with the New York City Transit Authority.
Tom was known for his charismatic heart of gold, always helping anyone in need. He loved people, fishing, crabbing, crafting, and gardening. His true love was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In addition to his wife surviving are five sons, Tom Brown, Jr. of New York, Larry Brown (Pamela) of New York, Tyrone B. Brown of the home, Eric Brown (Madeline) of New York, and David Brown of Engelhard; two daughters, Theresa Brown of New York, and Tonya Brown of New York; one stepdaughter, Litisa McMillan of Silver Springs, MD; a sister, Georgie Lewis of Chesapeake, VA, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Tuwana Wall; a brother, Edward Brown, and a sister Carrie Rickard.
