Troy Lane Mayo
April 3, 1946 – March 3, 2020
Troy Lane Mayo, 73, of Scranton N.C., peacefully passed away on March 3rd, 2020 at Roanoke Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plymouth.
A native of Hyde County, he was the eldest son of the late Troy Wilson Mayo and Thompson Ellen Emory Mayo. Troy Lane was a graduate of Mattamuskeet School class of 1965. He accomplished many achievements in his lifetime and went on to build his businesses as a general contractor, and a real estate broker.
Troy Lane was an avid golfer, in addition to many other hobbies, he also enjoyed fishing, and playing billiards. He adored spending his days on Smith Creek, where he built his home, but most of all Troy Lane loved and cherished Hyde County. He served many years as a Hyde County Commissioner, Chairman, and was a member of the Hyde County Health Board for nine years. In addition to numerous groups and organizations, Troy Lane was also a member of the Hyde County Atlantic Lodge #294 AF & AM
He is survived by a son, Jason Mayo, and a daughter Nikie Mayo, and husband Kirk Brown, as well as one grandson Tucker Mayo, a sister, Brenda Mayo Armstrong; a sister-in-law Elaine Mayo, and two nephews.
Troy Lane is also survived by his long-time friend, and caregiver Claudia Cahoon, her husband Lyle, and their daughters, Kristen Noble, Jaime Jones, Lyla Watson, and Emma Williams, their spouses, and children, who loved Troy Lane dearly for many years.
In addition to his beloved parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Gary Mayo.
A memorial service will be held at Swan Quarter Christian Church on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at 2:00 pm.
To honor Troy Lane’s love and admiration for Hyde County, and its history, in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department, and marked, “Mayo Bench/Hyde Bell”, at Post Office Box 97, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885. A park bench with a bronze plaque will be permanently displayed near the Hyde County Government Center in his memory to honor his many years of service and dedication to Hyde County and its citizens.
