Wahab Cahoon Obituary

Thomas “Wahab” Cahoon
September 3, 1932 – April 25, 2026

Thomas “Wahab” Cahoon, 93, of Swan Quarter, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

Wahab was born in Hyde County on September 3, 1932, to the late William Thomas and Mildred Wahab Cahoon.  He was married to Doris Raburn Cahoon for sixty -two years, before she preceded him in death.

He graduated from West Hyde High School in Swan Quarter and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Wahab spent his working years first in the family business, Cahoon & Wahab, a grocery and general store, and then as a postmaster for the US Postal Service, where he retired with 29 years of service.  After retiring from the US Postal Service, he helped operate Swan Quarter Appliance Center with his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Gwen.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed net fishing just as much as he did hook and line. He knew how to find and catch the fish. He enjoyed playing golf, mainly at Plymouth Country Club, with his buddies for many years.  He was known for being an excellent pool shooter, horseshoe pitcher, and card player. Wahab also loved to quail hunt, where he rarely missed a shot.

Wahab was a member of the Swan Quarter Christian Church, where he served faithfully as long as his health allowed, after being baptized at the age of 69.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Soule Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

He is survived by two sons, Joey Cahoon and wife Sharon of Greenville, and Jeffrey Cahoon and wife Shelly of Ayden, grandchildren:  Matthew Cahoon (Susan) of Greenville, Jenny Evans (Zack) of Raleigh, Ehtan Cahoon of Greenville, Tommy Cahoon of Cary, and Cadence Cahoon of Swan Quarter, great-grandchildren:  Warren Cahoon and Haley Cahoon, and his brother, William Joseph Cahoon of Free Union.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Cahoon and Charles Cahoon (wife Gwen), and his sister Alberta J. Cahoon.
