William “Billy” Thomas Armstrong
September 4, 1947 – October 19, 2022
William Thomas Armstrong, 75, of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
William Armstrong was born in Tyrrell County on September 4, 1947, to the late Elwood Roscoe and Maybell Spencer Armstrong.
Billy honorably served his country for two years in the Army. He spent over thirty-nine years working for Weyerhaeuser Paper Company and retired from the position of supervisor in 2005. He was a member of Soundside Free Will Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 182. Billy was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was always a kid at heart. Billy enjoyed being outside, working in his yard and loved to spend time with his family most of all.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Soundside Free Will Baptist Church, with Royce Reynolds officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
He is survived by two daughters: Corey Haney and husband James of Columbia, Casey Council and husband Milton of Columbia; a son, Adam Armstrong and wife Jessie of Columbia; grandchildren: Maddy Vanhorn, Rylee and Sophie Haney and Colton Council; many nieces and nephews, and life-time friend and former wife, Marie Brickhouse Armstrong.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Frankie “Porky” Armstrong, Roger Armstrong, Junior Armstrong, Ronald Armstrong, Shelby Balowsky, and Carol Woodley.
